The Pack Home Page

Den 4 has now become the Pirate Patrol!

The boys of the Pirate Patrol joined Troop 197 for a Back Packing trip to Beaver Valley on the St. Croix. The boys are all writing up a paragraph or two about the weekend. It was wonderful weather and we had a great time.

First we hiked a mile then we set up camp. I tried to make some new friends, and I did. Then we set up a fire. The next day, my Dad, Jordan, and his dad went on a 2.5 mile hike. I was in doughnut patrol. We got the name because we ate doughnuts every morning, and the adults had venison. I defiantly want to go again next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jordan
I learned how to plan a camping trip with the Boy Scouts. It's important not to over pack because you don't want your pack too heavy and how to pack food that is nutritious and lightweight.
I also learned teamwork is important in setting up camp like tents, and cooking food because its too hard for just one person., Its much easier to sleep in a hotel, but I like the outdoors better!!
The most important part was enjoying time with my friends and my Dad exploring the wilderness at Beaver Valley camp.

On the third weekend in April, Troop 197 went up to Beaver Valley to camp. We had to backpack in ¾ of a mile to get to our campsite. The first thing we did when we got to camp, was pitch our tents. My tent mate was Zach.
In the morning we had doughnuts for breakfast. After breakfast Cody, Zach, and I hiked for a while. After a while some other Boy Scouts joined in. When we got back to camp the Webelos worked on the Outdoorsman Activity Pin. After that we made lunch which was Ramon noodles and sandwiches. After lunch Bryce, Zach, some Boy Scouts, and I hiked over to the St. Croix. While we were there, I saw a blue shrimp head, (Zach said we should bring it back for dinner.) When we got back to camp we started to make dinner which for me was tacos.
After supper we roasted marshmallows. After all the marshmallows were gone we started playing games like farkle or pass the pig. At nine o’clock we started campfire light skits. The first one was a scout under a blanket being the ugliest creature in the world. A few scouts looked under and fainted, after that an adult looked under and the ugliest creature fainted. The second one was where there was a king that people tried to give silver but he denied, then one scout brought raisins from Jamaica, and he told him to bring him more. On the third day the king said,” where are my raisins “. Then he said ,”My pet bunny Jamaica died”. The last skit was the Webelos doing the spies. In the morning we packed our packs and backpacked back out.
